Democracy exemplified

If you are a student of American politics you should be familiar with the two major political parties of the Democrats and the Republicans. The difference between this two parties  is like day and night. That is no news to anybody that lives in the U.S or anyone for that matter that has paid close attention to the direction of government in the United States.  But this last few years that difference turned to a dramatic tense moment, the tension escalated since the administration of the current President Barack Obama. I’m personally impressed to see how President Obama has handled the animosity and attack directed to his administration and his person by those that are in the opposite aisle of American  Politics.

President Obama is at the last year of his administration but now comes the time for him to hand over power to a new President that will govern the country the next four years. The battle to elect a new President has been fought to the highest level that I’ve never witnessed in my life time. There were name-calling, innuendos, intimidation, mudslinging, intimidation and anything else you can imagine. The two Presidential aspirants are Donald J. Trump of the Republican party and Hillary Clinton representing the democrats. National elections were held on November 8th, 2016 and the surprise winner ended up being Donald J. Trump from the Republican party. Right after the victory President Obama of the Democratic Party offered an invitation to Donald Trump of the Republican party to visit him at the White House on Thursday November 10, 2016. The reason for this early invitation is to make sure that there is peaceful transition of power to the new government and also to make Donald Trump feel comfortable and familiar with the White House were he will occupy as the President of United States.

This is true democracy exemplified, that is how leadership should be transferred and unfortunately it doesn’t always happen like this in many countries of the world. Yes you can contest an election but it doesn’t have to be “do or die” and it should not end in blood shed or in a coup d’etat  where a group of people will suddenly use force to take over the government. I’m glad and proud to say that American still holds the leadership in world democracy.

Below you will see President Obama shaking hands with the new President-elect Donald Trump. Congratulations to both men for holding up the true meaning of democracy!
